Help the Sisters Make a Difference

From its inception, it was the intent of the Sisterhood to give back to our community through the sale of our canvas. The recipients of the proceeds of that sale were to be sisters everywhere, so what better charity than one which funds Breast Cancer Research. All women have either known someone afflicted, or been impacted themselves, by this horrid disease.

With sincere thanks to Monica of Girl Gone Thread Wild, our canvas will be among a beautiful collection of art auctioned off to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Please visit Monica's blog post to read about The Pink Artist Drawing and see how you can help by joining in the auction. It's a win-win situation when you can help this important cause and receive a wonderful piece of artwork as well.

The Sisters are also deeply grateful to Monica for her lovely post about our collaborative journey.

Journey of the Canvas

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Canvas was an incredible journey and the transformation of the canvas was very exciting. Every time a sister posted the pictures of their contribution it created an excitement among us that in turn created a very special bond between us! Here is a little photographic journal of our journey.

The journey of the Sisterhood began with Kim Geiser. A few layers of paint, a stencil and a dandelion transfer and it was on to the next sister.

Nancy Lefko got the canvas next and added some of her signature fantastic background elements. Already the canvas had great texture and depth!

Kathy Maximo was next in line. She has such a way with words it was only natural that she add the words comfort, spirit and inspire!

Alisa Nordholt-Dean added her collage trees that make an appearance in much of her work. The real foundation was set with this wonderful addition!

Next up was the talented Jodi Ohl. Her work often depicts these great buildings that symbolize something we all love...home.

Pam Carriker added her beautiful portraits to represent the community that we have formed with this project.

Denise Hayden added some great beads and other 3D elements to give the canvas a little more depth and glitz.

Last but certainly not least Glenda Bailey. Glenda finished the canvas with a wonderful quote and a little shading. Glenda also created a cover for the journal and bound the pages that we all created to artfully document our time with the canvas.

This was such a rewarding project that the publication was just the icing on the cake!

The Beginning

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Canvas, eight women who came together on the Etsy forums to form the bonds of friends and sisters. Sharing techniques, giving advice, sharing the joys and sorrows of everyday life. Our own little community supporting each other in the way that only another artist can.

This is the continuing story of our 'Sisterhood', a place where we will share with each other and with you. We are all sisters on a journey to create art. We invite you to follow us as we continue on, hoping to make a difference in the world around us, and sharing our lives as well as our art.
